We'll be preparing for our CNY concert and next will be our speech day.
Please memorize both Malay Folk Song and Xi Shui Chang Liu (the chinese song).

"Dear Band, the SSO Concert is on the 18th and 19th this month. It's a school day. So please let me know if the band intent to go together! The teachers will have to make arrangements too. So just get to Jin Hui whether u intent to go! Also, I would like to again show my appreciation to everyone for today's outstanding performance! Thank the NCOs and teachers for the wondeful preparation! Would also like to thank our alumnus Senior Shuxian for coming! 25 members on the list is pure reflection of your hard work. Keep the band spirit at this level (or even higher!) as we will have a very busy year ahead! Next 6 months will see the band performing in events such as the CNY performance, Speech Day, Band Investiture as well as the National Band Competition. We've started 2012 with a bang! Our seniors in Singapore Polytechnic Symphonic Band will be holding a concert @ the Esplanade, 7.30pm-9.30pm on 20 jan 2012, Fri. Tickets selling @ 15$ each.

If interested, please inform Major JinHui by 11jan2012,wed. Bring the money too as Senior Shuxian who is performing too will be coming down to collect the money from you.

Ngee Ann Polytechnic Concert/Alumni Band will also be holding a concert @ Yong Siew Toh Conservatory Concert Hall, Nus @ 7pm on 15 jan 2012. Tickets at 12$.

TODAY'S OPEN HOUSE

Today's open house, Mr julian, Teachers in charge along with other teachers, were impressed, happy, and satisfied. Even Mr Tham, our school principal, stood by the side and listened to us. :)

Dear Band Members,

Please take note that these following dates are your holiday band practices. On mondays, it will be on the 31st October, 14th November and 21st November 2011. On wednesdays, it will be on the 2nd November, 9th November, 16th November and 23rd November 2011. All these practices are from 9:00am to 12:00pm. Other than that, there is a band camp coming up. It will begin on Monday, 28th November 2011 for the NCO Band Committee Members, and 29th November 2011 for the Secondary 1 & 2 Band Members, respectively. The NCOs will have to report on Monday, 28th November 2011, 8:00am while the Sec 1 & 2 Band Members will have to report on Tuesday, 29th November 2011, 7:30am. The camp will end on 1st December 2011, 1:30pm.

Lastly, please do not forget that you have a test coming up. And do practise all the pieces that we will be playing.

Phototaking session

There will be a CCA photo taking will be on this coming Monday, 26 September 2011.

Attire for ALL Secondary 1 band member will be your Blue band tee, School Uniform's Skirt/Short and your court shoes

-(Guys remember your black socks).

Sec 1s, if you know tht you are wearing the Senior's Skirt/Pants for the band uniform, please bring it along with you on Monday and pass it to Ma'am Shiori.

How will you know if you are wearing the Seniors Skirt/Pants? It is when you get your Skirt/Pants earlier than the rest...

Secondary 2-5 band member, you will be wearing your full band uniform.

All Secondary 1, 2 & 3 band member, you are to report to the band room by 1445 in your full band uniform/Half Uniform.

As for all Secondary 4 & 5 band members, you are to report to the band room at 1420 to sort out your uniforms.

For sec 4s & 5s, please remember to bring your court shoes (Guys remember to bring along your black socks), pink shirts and the band uniform's Skirts/Pants if you still have it with you on Monday.

Please take note that we have to report to the Indoor Sports Hall at 1500, don't be late.

Dear Band Members,

Do take note that there'll be NDP rehearsal on 3rd and 5th Aug 2011, Wed and Fri respectively. Report at 1445 on Tuesday and Wednesday, 1330 on Friday. You are to wear your Blue Band Tee and your School Skirt/Pants on all the rehearsals. Also Attendence is compulsory, Medical Certificate or parent letter must be submitted to the Secretaries by the next practice.

Whenever you borrow a Original Score home, please take good care of it, if we saw any tear or you dirty it which includes writing on the original score with a pen or pencil, Punishment will be carried out as a section same applies to dropping of instruments.

SECONDARY ONES ALERT!

The tailor will be coming down next week to take your measurements for your shirts and some of you, your skirts/Pants. So be here on both practices next week as we're not too sure when exactly the tailor is coming. Also you have to pay for the Pink shirt it'll cost you $14 each. For guys your shoes will cost you $22 each do take note, if you have yet to inform Li Min your Shoe Size please do so by Fri, 8th July 2011.

HEY JSB! :D

I'm glad to see everyone's efforts being paid off at the recent SYF, though the fact that we only got a bronze! BUT IT'S OKAY. The recording on that day really sounded awesome, especially Among The Clouds! :D Let's work hard for other performances and give it our best to the audiences who are listening to us, alright? :D I hope that the next competition we can go to would be the SIBF, HEH HEH HEH. And EHEH, who doesn't have the recording, you can get it from Kevin! Or actually, any other sec 4s or anyone else who has it (:

So, now what? We, the sec 4s are gonna step down soon. And the sec 3s are gonna step up soon. Are you guys gonna be ready for the change? Anws, I'll miss this band a lot. I'm sure the rest of my batch will too!

Practice Your Part Don't Be Selfish, there are people who care and there are people who don't care. The Sec 1s had already chosen their instruments and also started their theory lesson, even though you're not sure how many or which junior is joining your section, You should know that there is at least one of them joining Your section. So, Sec 2s you should be practicing hard so that you won't throw your face in front of them, Your theory lesson had ended a year ago its kind of late to start all over again, but its never too late to start anything. You learn from your mistake. Like What Mr Julian Said, Not Enough Time. 2 WEEKS to get gold with honour?! Its impossible. Not only Sec 2s it applies to all band member. I'm sure you guys had purchased your own tuner right? Please remember to use it during band practice, please do not buy and keep it in your bag or what, you've bought it, so make full use of it. There is Sectional Tomorrow hope to see everyone tomorrow. And Today's Proficiency Test Only the French horns, Saxophones, Flutes and percussion went through the test i guess, you guys may go and ask how does it feel like when you're inside having your test, to prepare yourself (: Brasses, your instruments may be hard to pitch but i wish you guys will make full use of the remaining time to practice, memorising the scales and to ASK your seniors for help be it in rhythms or scales (: JiaYou! Please take note that there will be a Proficiency Test this coming Tuesday which is the 18th Jan 2011. If you wish to enjoy your Chinese new year please practice and pass the test before Chinese New Year to prevent getting a so called the "AngPao" which contains Warning letter! Last but not least, If you don't wish to embarrassed yourself in front of your new juniors which is the Sec 1s, do practice so that you can play the Singapore Flyer and Among The Clouds nicely for them on Friday 21st Jan 2011. =) Let Us Work together and show the juniors good example and what is expected when they are in Jurong Symphonic Band ! =)

The whole thing went well, but we know ourselves that if we did gave our best on that day, everything would go even smoother and better! ^^ Now, let us NOT forget this performance and carry on. With every performance that we have, it will be an event for us to gain experience.

FOR NOW! WE SHALL FOCUS ON THE END OF YEAR NUS CONCERT ALONG WITH CHOIR AND CO. We shall give our best from now on to every practice that we attend ~ And, give a good performance 3 months later! And after which, our attention would then be turned to *dengdengdeng* SYF.

"WHAT CAN WE DO TO IMPROVE OURSELVES?"

This was what the BAND MAJOR asked us on TUESDAY. She has given us 3 DAYS to think of an answer to this RIDICULOUSLY SIMPLE QUESTION. & yet! None of us has given her an answer? WHAT IS THIS?! I know you guys are busy with activities going on this week and the whole of next week, and maybe next next week but, answering a SIMPLE QUESTION doesn't require you to spend one whole day pondering about it!

So, anyone, honestly, when you're told to bring back your instrument to practice, DO YOU REALLY PRACTICE AT HOME? Do you? Or do you just leave it there as a display item? If you're going to do so, why might as well you don't bring it back?

Now, let's talk about the issue on DISCIPLINE. Iim not sure if you realise this, but our band's discipline is really really bad. The sec 3s and Mr Julian are totally disappointed in how we are behaving. For example, yesterday when band practice ended, the BM had to help to wash the mugs of some particular section and while the DM had to keep a stand for the same particular section too? Now, I'm not quite sure what their jobs are. They're there to lead us, to guide us, to teach us or are they there to be our MAIDS, SERVANTS or CLEANERS? Have you ever thought about this? Seriously, I don't think we've learnt from the camp during March. We're suppose to help one another, AND NOT BE SELFISH.

The both of them, BM & DM are humans, they come for band practices to enjoy playing on their instruments, playing together pieces , enjoying band practices like us! However, they are different from us. They have more responsibilities to hold and have been assigned with much more important jobs in the band! Please spare a thought for the sec 3s. They are having a lot of homework already and yet, when they come to band, they have to worry and fret over such minor stuffs, when the things that have happened could easily be resolved by us? We are not born to be spoon-feeded, we are not born with golden mouths. Please think about this, after the sec 3s leave, and we're stuck in the stage where everything we do has to be spoon-feeded, WOULD WE learn anything? And after they leave, would we be able to survive? We are to do everything by ourselves by then.

Do You think the Sec 2s will help when they are already so lazy like Sec 1s? Do You think the Sec 2s will care when you Sec 1s don't even care? Do You Think The seniors will pass down their roles with their mind in peace to the Sec 2s especially, when you need to lead the whole band? Sec 2s Your Task now is to improve yourself.

Sec 1s your turn is coming but it is still kind of long, however, now what you guys need to do is to improve yourself playing on the instrument. BM has given you 2 more weeks to complete your I Recommend practices NO. 3,4,7,8,11 and pg 21 : staccato etude. It's a simple task, some of you can play, but you still have to practice. Other than the I Recommend practices, EVERYONE is to know the Concert Bb, Eb, F and C scales!

JUNIORS! PLEASE SPARE A THOUGHT FOR THE OTHERS, DON'T BE SELFISH. Seeing the band in this state, is terribly disappointing. We must work hard together to bring the band standard up again! Do you know that the sec 5s, naming Joevin, Shu Xian, Irfan and Jackson, do not have the need to come for band? They are going to having their exams soon! But yet, what? They're kind enough to come back for band to help us out in the National Day Parade performance.I really do hope that we could do something in favor to return them. If they weren't there, the band would sound even softer and may sound more terrible.

I hope someone reads this post, and reflect on his/her own actions. NOW, EVERYONE JIAYOUS! ^_^

So, i'm sure you guys have gotten the envelopes for the band photo already right? For those who have not, please get the envelopes from Wen Xin @ Class 3-2 or on tuesday! Please, remember to GIVE THE ENVELOPES WITH THE MONEY ( if you're buying the photos ) to either Wen Xin or Adam BY next friday's practice! If you're not getting panicky and worried, there must be something wrong with you. UNLESS, you can play all the songs already, which then is another case. For the songs, PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE NOTE DOWN WHATEVER MR JULIAN HAS SAID. FOR EXAMPLE, THE DYNAMICS! Don't repeat the mistakes, over and over again every practice. In music notation, an accent mark indicates a louder dynamic to apply to a single note, or an articulation mark. The most common is the horizontal accent, the fourth symbol in the diagram above; this is the symbol that most musicians mean when they say accent mark. The vertical accent, third in the diagram, may be stronger or weaker than the horizontal accent; composers have never been consistent in using these markings. The vertical accent has many informal names such as a teepee, housetop, or mamba-jamba. In most musical works this type of accent is meant to be played more forcefully and usually shorter. The remaining marks typically shorten a note.

1. Staccato, the first symbol shown above, indicates that the last part of a note should be silenced to create separation between it and the following note. about this band camp, it will be on 16th till 18th of March

for all seniors that graduated last year, as behalf of all your beloved juniors to invite you back for Farewell Celebration, this event will start from 1815 to 1945 during the first day of the camp (16th March).

Before Farewell Celebration is Talent Showcase by the campers from 1715 to 1815, you can also join in if you are interested.

For the rest of the seniors that had graduated for a long time ago, you are also invited back to the band camp as a one big family.

I'm not very sure that seniors can stay overnight but i will response to this ASAP.

If got any question, you may contact any of the sec 4 or 5 for more information, if you don't have any of their contact number, you may leave a tag and i will try to response to it.

Hello Everyone,

Joevin here, if you don't know me, I'm from the Tuba section.
It has been a long time I have blogged here.

The organisers (Angus, Jia Hui, Kevin, Adam, Janah, Shu Xian and Me) has organise a band outing for all of you. We have loss lots of brain cells thinking about what to have for the band outing and we came out a suggestion of a babecue. The venue will not be at East Coast Park or Sentosa this time as most of you stays around the Jurong area and it takes time to travel home and therefore, we chose a place nearby.

Here are the Details.

Venue: Taman Jurong Green

Each person have to pay 10 bucks to either Jia Hui or Kevin and this 10 bucks consist of 4 bucks of Band Fund and 6 bucks of the Babeque Stuffs.

*Even though there are less variety of food, but there is large quantity of food.

For the first and second week of practices, the sec 1 and 2s are to report to me ( Wen Xin ) for attendance taking at 0930. For the next few weeks, it'll be the majors, Angus and Daniel. ;D

at least we never follow the pattern of our SYF

others don't believe that our band can play overture no.2 cause of the size of our band plus the standard of our band last time.
BUT after our SYF many people said that our playing is very nice

this time round what we have prove to them is that a small band also can have the same standard of the other big band,
a small band does not mean that we cannot play a harder piece.

a HIGH SILVER means we improve but not forever,
thus we can't stop here, we still have to carry on work hard,
sad to tell that this time round the sec 4s and 5s will not stay together with you all anymore.

sec 3s your show is starting soon, is time for your to lead the band.
two weeks time is your turn to run the show,
and this show have to run for at least a year,
the teachers give your a post means your got a bond with them, your cannot give up
i still remember that last year 13 June, on Friday, our batch got a talk with Mr. Goh
that time we just take over for around 2 month plus and the band is dying
that is the reason why he want to talk to us

Second this coming Wednesday will have a band practice it's from 1400-1600 from what Ms Yana said, there will not have any flow out for any class, but if you have please inform any major or secretary, the band practice is to prepare for the upcoming Friday.
Last this coming Friday(30/01/2009) is the SYF Rehearsal @ Singapore Conference Hall

The reporting time is 1330 with full band-u (with badge) cause we are taking photo in the SCH

Just to tell you guys that the CNY performance was not bad onlie that it was still too soft but kudos(congrats!) to gabriel for giving a shot at the semiquavers!

Hope we can get faster and better with this everchanging band(seriously) and hopes we can have better bond with the teachers-in-charge. Like no communication like that. HAhs..

ANd for the upcoming competition and school anniversary performances, hope you guys will put in a lot of effort for it yar!!!

whats up mann... seriously aren't you guys happy that band pract ends already?
i bet you guys are so so happy aite. anyway.. here to post about spring cleaning last friday.
its suppose to be commitee job la.. but guess how many people turn up? only 8!! they are.. me.cindy.asriq.pekkay.estina.jiaming.sinar and janah! haha...we have to dump lots of rubbish mann.. so tiring. but it was fun..if only more people turn up than it would be much more hyper.. okay.. we have to clear all the art stuff thats found in the cabinet. and there's plenty of it!! total of 5 heavy and big trash bags!and in the end all this trash have to be brought down to the bin centre behind canteen..(okay i can't post vulgar in band blog!)

anyway. we have fun too. especially the part when we come up with some percussion stomp.. the "we" is asriq.me.cindy.estina.jiaming.. haha. its so fun man. asriq's on the snare. i'm on the wooden clock. cindy on shaker, castanets and tambarine. estina on xylophone. and lastly jiaming on bells. we really act like some pro batu cada group. when actually we're playing rubbish.. you guys must hear the recording!! we really had fun! but whatever we play was rubbish. but it turn out nice ah! LOL! anyway. after spring cleaning. i see not much different in the band room. it still look like art room to me.. i think all you guys think so too right. we have to come up and do something with that room.

anyway band.. this year no band camp. due to the teacher's decision. so next year ba? a camp where we include the new sec ones also.. oh my god. band really change that much ah? no band camp no spirit mann. i wonder why ah. maybe because miss chng left. that is definitely one of the reason.. anyway. if the sec twos remember, band camp is always the last activity we had before we meet next year.. haiz. okay la.. anyway. this december we coming back to prepare for cca display next year. we have to paint new banners. do small tokens. we have to take in more juniors!! so lets work together.. i really need people to help ya. this is voluntary basis so initiative plays a big part here ah.. help help. give me a call if u free! don't have my number ask whoever who knows..

There will be a concert on 26th november 2007 which is the La Sinfonie D'Amis and will be held at Catholic Junior College at 7pm. The schools which are performing are Combined Shuqun Symphonic Winds & Zhenghua Symphoni c Band, Admiralty Concert Band, Assumption English Concert Band , Orchid Park Wind Orchestra. The tickets will be selling at $8 per ticket. Please support us as I'm sure that there will be lots of fun! Please tell me if you are interested in the concert. THANKS!

reflections on concert

hey JSB-ians..
great concert yar? hmm.. here to post bout how we've done...
well, firstly, i wana thank all who came down to support us.. thank you!
hmm.. many parents and personal friends feed back that we did improve alot from last year concert. congratulation to us!
personally, i think, i love to have this kind of mini concert..
but, there's alot to improve on... lets work harder... c'mon ppl!
sadly, miss chng can't make it..
hmm.. mr. goh said we did well..
personal batch performance was especially good for sec one.
my friend say, our sec one gt good future with their sound like this.
congratulation sec one...
sec two, u guys are very independant... i'm glad to see that..
well done!
guess what! i'm in love with JSB!
hehe.. i love u guys too.. anyway...
final year exam is around the corner.. study hard ya people..
do well in both music and studies..
hmm...
not forgetting to thank our teacher in charge for the effort..

well done everyone!! even mr goh said or deserved a silver..dat shows..our concert was definitely a success..

some of our audience said dat dey preferred this years concert den our last's..oso congrats to the brass quintet as ranald's father really liked dem a lot..

CONGRATULATIONS JSB..our hard work has paid off!!

hey band members!
well.. here to say that.. this concert is a small one only...
but doesn't mean ur hard work and effort must be that small also...
hmm.. anyway the main objectives of the concert is to let all the member's parents see, what we have been doing in band.. so do ur best to show what u can yar..
its not big for others, but to JSB members, i think u guys can't wait for it..
anyway.. just here to inform u guys that,
the sec one members that have quited, are welcomed to join back..
is by 28 august (if i'm nt wrong) they still do not hav e a CCA, they have to come back to us!
